CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION
A child will be considered for admission when the advice offered with his Statement of Special Educational Needs suggests that his learning difficulties and/or his emotional and behavioural difficulties are such that they would seriously impede his progress in the mainstream of education.
Once a child is recommended for admission to the School, parents are invited to make an appointment through the School Office to visit the School and meet the Headteacher to discuss the details of the child's placement. During the visit, parents and their child will be given a tour of the School grounds and buildings so that they can observe some School activities and meet some of the staff. After the visit the parents are not required to make an immediate decision as to whether they wish their son to come to St. Nicholas School or not. It is always advisable that any such decision is made away from the School so that the parents do not feel pressurised into making what is an important decision for their son.
If it is felt both by the child's parents and the School that it is appropriate for him to be admitted, then just prior to the date of admission the parents and the child are invited to meet his
Keyworker and Class Teacher on a pre-admission visit. At this meeting all relevant issues such as school dress, pocket money, medical matters, etc. are discussed with the parents.
