Upon admission to the school each pupil will be assigned a Keyworker. This will be a member of child care staff working in his unit. In the case of a day pupil this role will normally be undertaken by a member of the teaching ancillary staff. The role of the Keyworker involves a number of functions which include;
- Being Keyworker to a group of up to 8 pupils.
- Establishing and maintaining a positive relationship with the pupil and his family.
- Establishing and maintaining regular contact with parents - parents should be kept informed of all issues relating to the welfare and interests of their son. It is also hoped that parents will work in partnership with Keyworkers in providing a consistent approach to dealing with the needs of each pupil.
- Providing a framework of care and support to ensure that pupils feel safe and secure within the school environment.
- Providing pupils with an opportunity to discuss their concerns.
- Liaising with other professionals and agencies involved i.e., social workers, medical staff, etc.
- Writing reports, maintaining individual records and attending reviews and case conferences.
- Meeting regularly with Teaching Staff to set Individual Pupil Targets, evaluate progress made and agree an Educational and Social Action Plan.
